BLUE - The largest Multi Pool Complex in the World

Link to BLUEH2o.tv

  1. A media-ready Olympic-size swimming pool
  2. A diver and diving training pool
  3. An indoor surfing facility

"Blessed by nature with one of the world’s finest harbours, the sea does not simply mark the edge of our Plymouth, it is central to its livelihood and personality. Every aspect of life is touched by its maritime setting: from climate to culture, from education to the economy, from work to leisure, the influence of the sea is all-pervasive"

Plymouth maritime City in Transition (1991)
Chakley, Dunkerly and Gripaios

1. 50 metre Olympic sized and multi-purpose swimming pool.

The ‘jewel in the crown’ of the BLUE multi pool facility will be equipped with the latest underwater camera and lighting systems. It will be able to cater for over 5,000 spectators and provide a venue for major events, including swimming, indoor windsurfing, water polo, octo-push and synchronised swimming. It will also be a world-class training facility for our national teams and will be adaptable for use with wind and wave generators for windsurfing.

Plymouth is currently planning to build a 50 metre pool; their prospective site is near Home Park, Central Park and the Mayflower. But we believe there is a unique opportunity to build a pool in a waterside location and regenerate an area of Plymouth which needs it, such as Devonport.

Projected Project costs: £50 Million

2. A diver and diving training pool

25 metres long and 10 metres deep, this pool will be purpose built for diver training.

Various possibilities here include ROV training and testing, tunnels for cave diving, an underwater habitat, UW viewing points and use as an underwater filming studio

3. Indoor wave and surfing facilities

Built for both media organisations and the general public, Blue Trident will also invite local universities, colleges and secondary schools to become involved with Blue and help it grow into a success. We aim to appeal to the younger generation and to take an active interest in the teaching of skills such as diving, surfing and other marine-related activities. We believe we can act as a platform to aid and encourage new young talent. And it will certainly put the Southwest on the map in terms of marine facilities.
